Unleash your creative potential: Express yourself like a rock star! 12 lessons,beginners guide to song writing.

Lesson 1:

So you may have never written a song in your life.  You may have the desire to express your inner most feelings. Maybe your angry, happy or sad and just want to write it out…. Where ever you are in terms of expressing your self and song writing, I will be taking you through week to week some exercises. Please comment and post feedback.

So the first thing I’m going to ask you is collect your favorite songs.  5 or 10 of them.  Print them out and read the lyrical content.  Explore why you like the lyrics and how you want to express your self.

There are some different ways you can write. For example, the Weakerthans and Bon Iver write some songs that include places they were and they tell stories from first and second person.  The way they write you can almost see where they were in that instant. There are writers that you have no clue what the heck they are writing about, but some how it makes sense to them and you example: AFI.

You need to decide if you want to write to an audience and who that audience is.  Do you want to connect to these people through your writing or do you want to write in a way that is cryptic?  You can try out many different ways until you have your own style and mash up of songs.

So explore 5-10 of your favorite songs and determine who are you trying to communicate to and what you want to get out of this. Commit to writing regularly.

    Anyone who is reading this, and especially the owner of this blog, should check out the plugin that lets you automatically link text for affiliate links and SEO purposes. The plugin does a bunch more too. It can cloak links and set links so that they are either followed or not follow by search engines and stuff like that. I mostly just use it for automatically linking keywords to my affiliate links. It beats the heck out of manually creating affiliate links. by varying the link anchor texts and linking to deeper pages in the site, you should be able to see some improvements in your overall search engine rankings.
